It started while I was researching a photograph of Arnold Schwarzenegger taken at Cannes in 1977.

I wanted to know who took it and what was actually happening in the photograph. That search took me much further than I expected. I ended up looking through photo agencies and archives, speaking to photographers and eventually trying to find old BBC footage from Cannes.

It made me think about how much material is still sitting somewhere that we don’t know about, and the stories behind it that haven’t really been told.

That was really how PALEKHA started. I wanted to keep looking and see what else might be out there, and whether any of it could become something worth showing and telling.
